A Big Thank You to Our Partners

Level 1 Adventure Trips

As the beginning level, these trips feature day trips that leave from a central location. Camping is done with some sort of structure that has a roof, no tent camping. Activities are low-risk and there is plenty of time bonus activities or relaxation time once the day trip is complete. Ages 10-11, children ages 9 and 12 may attend with a sibling, cousin or friend in the 10-11 age range. If your child is 12, we recommend them making the jump to Level 2.

Mountain Momma : Junior (July 6 – 12)

Taking the exciting Mountain Momma Trip, that is a major hit at Fitch and making it younger camper friendly. On this level one version of Mountain Momma, campers will stay in large canvas tents with a picnic pavilion style, tin roof over their heads. This ‘glamping’ will take place at Ace Resort in West Virginia. Activities will include white water rafting the upper portion of the New River (Class III rapids), playing in a water park multiple days, rock climbing, going on a two-mile hike, and enjoying several other local tourist favorites including doing the bridge walk. Let us seek out new adventures and new friendships!

Legends of Lehigh (July 13 – 19)

New for 2025! Piggy backing off the Jersey Journey trip, this level one version of it will have campers sleeping in more ‘stylish’ accommodations and dials down the intensity of the activities. On this trip, campers will whitewater raft the Lehigh River, bike the D&L trail (paved), enjoy a day relaxing at Mauch Chunk Lake with stand-up paddleboards and Kayak rentals, spending a night visiting the local shops of Jim Thorpe will be included. Zipline might be a bonus activity.

Lake Erie Legacy (July 20 – 26)

Start your adventure trips legacy by Exploring local areas of Northwest Pennsylvania and Northeast Ohio and dive into history of our Camp Fitch moto ‘Don’t Give Up the Ship!’ This level one trip includes 5-day trips that include ziplining and high rope challenges, kayaking, visiting a local amusement park, mountain biking, stand-up paddle boarding, sea kayaking, and whatever else time allows! This trip is perfect for the beginner adventure trip camper as they will be back at Camp Fitch YMCA eating in the dining hall and sleeping in Beecher Cabin.

Level 2 Adventure Trips

The classic level of adventure! This level features our most popular trip, Mountain Momma and all these trips introduce activities at a fun, safe level. Like Level 1, these trips feature day trips from a central location, however Level 2 trips introduce sleeping in tents and having youth help cook and clean dishes during meals. Ages 12-14. If there are no level 3 trips offered, a 15-year-old may register by Director permission.

Shenandoah Shenanigans (June 22 – 28)

New for 2025! On this level two adventure, campers venture out to the Shenandoah Valley of Northern Virginia and the Potomac River basin of Maryland. Staying at one campground for the first three days, campers will get a chance to canoe the Shenandoah River, hike up Old Rag in the national park, kayak some class one the two rapids on the Antietam Creek while visiting historical area likes Harpers Ferry, WV. The last leg of the trip will have the group whitewater rafting on the lower portion of the Youghiogheny River near Ohioplye, PA. With three days of whitewater and only one day of hiking, this trip is perfect for your little river otters.

Maryland Mayhem : Freedom Week’s Spectacular! (June 20 – July 3/4)

New for 2025! Spark up your week of freedom on this shortened week-long adventure trip. Running Sunday-Thursday, this trip is perfect for campers who want some adventure but would like to be home in time for the fourth of July weekend festivities with family and friends. Once this trip leaves camp, the fun never takes a rest! Highlights include visiting a rock maze, hiking a two-mile-long trail with gorgeous waterfalls, experiencing a high ropes course, playing miniature golf, and tubing on Deep Creek Lake. The trip ends by whitewater rafting the lower portion of the Youghiogheny River near Ohiopyle, PA. Parents have the opportunity to pick their kids up Thursday night or early Friday morning. This trip may be a level 2 in size but is for all ages of adventure trip campers 10-17. If you are ages 10 and 11, you will raft the upper portion of the Youghiogheny River instead.

Mountain Momma : Classic (July 6 – 12 & July 27 – Aug 2)

This is the classic West Virginia trip that started this fun and built the foundation of what Fitch Adventures is today. Campers will be tent camping and having access to showers every day at ACE Adventure Resort in West Virginia. Here they will experience two days of white-water rafting on the New River, climbing in the Meadow River Gorge, and walking underneath the New River Gorge Bridge on a historical tour. Ziplining and playing in the lake at ACE will be additional bonus programs. This is the ‘golden ticket’ to see what adventure trips is all about.

Jersey Journey (July 13 – 19)

Travel to the Northwest corner of New Jersey where the black bears and bald eagles reign! This trip features day trips of hiking, rock climbing, whitewater sit-on-top kayaking, and mountain biking. Bonus activities include visiting an ostrich farm, swimming in a glacial lake, and shopping in the local touristy town of Jim Thorpe. Experience everything the Delaware Water Gap and Lehigh Valley has to offer and more. Legends of Lehigh (Level 1) will also accompany this trip. Great experience for family members that may vary in age. Besides ‘Mountain Momma’ this trip has become a secondary staple trip of Camp Fitch’s adventure trips program.

Level 3 Adventure Trips

Upping the game is our Level 3 trips. These trips feature days that feel much longer due to the nature of their set up. These trips usually require traveling 1-2 hours per day once the trip makes it to the region where the activities are. Typical structure has the youth taking their tents down once they wake up, doing the activity in the late morning and afternoon, then driving to the next location and setting up camp there in the evening. These trips are a great way to explore an entire region such as the Greyson Highlands of Southwest Virginia, the Berkshires of Massachusetts/Vermont, or up the intensity in West Virginia on a different version of the popular Mountain Momma trip. Ages are for 13-16. A 12-year-old may register if they have already done a Level 2 trip, turning 12 later in the calendar year. A 17-year-old may register with Director permission.

Berkshire Breakaway (June 8 – 14)

Travel to Western Massachusetts and into the Berkshire Mountains. Campers on this trip will spend one day of hiking in the beautiful Berkshires, the first mountain range of the Northeast. The other days are spent on the Deerfield River kayaking and whitewater rafting in the Zoar Valley. On the way back, this trip will stop at a tourist cave in New York State. This trip is meant to be a soft introduction for those campers thinking of doing the Northeast Beast adventure trip in the future. With the dates this year, this is the best trip for campers looking for something before flapship camp starts at Camp Fitch. Stayover pricing is available for those looking to attend week 1 of traditional camp.

Mountain Momma : Ultimate (June 15 – 21)

Taking the classic Mountain Momma trip and upping the game. Kepping with the traditional trip, campers will still white water raft the lower portion of the New River, zipline, play in the waterpark, and do the bridge walk. Additions will be stand-up paddle boarding at Summersville Lake, navigating a mud obstacle course, and exploring a high ropes course. Continue the Mountain Momma journey with this unique variation.

Mountain Momma : Remix (New for 2025) July 6 – 12

Some former Mountain Momma campers got ahold of the traditional schedule and mixed a lot of things up to their hip tastes. Instead of tossing the schedule out, we liked it so much, we kept it. So, get ready for a roller coaster. After experiencing the Bridge Walk on the first day, campers will dive into rafting the New River Gorge on the second day. Wednesday sees the group horseback riding and ziplining while playing in the waterpark until the late hours of the night. On Thursday the group stand-up paddleboards at Summersville Lake and from there travel North to Ohioplye, PA to camp. On the day, they whitewater raft a second time, this time on the Youghiogheny River.

Gorge 2 Gorge (July 20 – 26)

Voted best trip of 2024. Get the best of both worlds and venture to both the Red River Gorge in Kentucky and the New River Gorge in West Virginia. Campers will travel to Slade, KY, hiking and climbing in the Red River Gorge on day one. The second day has them ziplining across the Red River Gorge and taking a stand-up paddleboard tour in a cave full of rainbow trout. The trip will then travel to West Virginia and finish with another day of climbing and white water rafting the New River, feeling almost like a ‘Mountain Momma’ ending.

Grayson Highlands : Ultimate (July 27 – August 2)

Traditionally just called “Grayson Highlands” in the past, this trip highlights everything that Southwestern Virginia and Northeast Tennessee has to offer. Campers will backpack overnight in the beautiful 5,000 ft. Blue Ridge Mountains in Grayson Highlands State Park, mountain bike the Virginia Creeper Trail (mixed pea gravel), explore a wild cave in Tennessee, and finish the trip by rafting the lower portion of the New River in West Virginia. Like Mountain Momma being the flagship trip for level 2 trips, Grayson Highlands has been proven and tested to be out flagship trip for level 3. A definite must in adventure camping.

Vermont Voyage (Returning to the schedule in 2026)

Heading to the Northeast, this trip follows the same path as our Level 4 trip – Northeast Beast but is shortened a bit to get back to Camp Fitch in time for a Saturday parent pick up. Campers will go on a day hike in Green Mountains, zipline, mountain bike, and whitewater raft the Zoar Valley on the Deerfield in Massachusetts.

Level 4 Adventure Trips

These trips feature moderate to high-risk activities, travel further away, sometimes spend longer than a week out, and serve as a capstone for the adventure camper. These trips really embody the outdoor adventure lifestyle and new trip campers need to be ready to keep up pace with returning campers, buy no previous experience is required. Parents are strongly encouraged to not think of this as an experience for a child to lose weight. Teens should have a sharp mind and be able to listen to instructions.

Camping has the same structure as a Level 3 trip, using tents and making camp at different locations. These trips are for ages 14-17 with 13-year-olds allowed, if they have already been on a Level 3 trip with Camp Fitch YMCA.

Northeast Beast (June 22 – 30)

Join us on a wild, nine-day experience as we travel throughout the Northeastern United States. The first phrase of the trip features stand-up paddleboarding at Emerald Lake and a two-day backpacking trip in Central Vermont. The second phase involves rock climbing, rappelling for a day and exploring the top of Mt. Washington in Northern New Hampshire via cog railway. We end with phase three in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts for two fun days of whitewater rafting. There will be a zipline added on to this trip, location TBD. This is one beast of adventures we offer and only runs once every two years. Feed the Beast good vibes and it will reward you with adventure.

Grayson Highlands : Supreme (July 13 – 19)

This variation of the Grayson Highlands trip lets campers explore east of the mountains. On this trip campers experience a day hike amongst the wild ponies and longhorn cattle 5,000 feet up with no camping, just a day hike. After this, the trip mainly focuses on paddling skills with an overnight canoe trip on the New River in North Carolina. On Thursday the group finishes up their canoe trip, drives to West Virginia and participates in a high ropes course. The trip ends by rafting the New River on Friday, creating that same ending feel as the Ultimate Grayson Highlands trip. This version of Grayson Highlands is on a three-year rotation, next trip is 2028!

Sweet Carolina (Returns in 2026)

The river otters invite you to come down south and play in the warm waters. Sweet Carolina is a Fitch classic. On this trip, campers revisit a Grayson Highlands trip favorite, crawling through the cave in Tennessee. After this, the trip enters North Carolina and takes a two-day backpacking trip in the Pisgah National Forest, that can sometimes feel like a rainforest. After completing the hiking portion, the trip will canoe on the New River, straddling the North Carolina/Virginia border and home to some of the first class II and III rapids. The trip ends with a bang like most trips at Fitch do, rock climbing at Pilot Mountain and whitewater rafting in West Virginia.

Level 5 Adventure Trips

No exception, these trips are only for ages 16-17. If Level 4 is treated as the ‘capstone’ of the adventure program, Level 5 trips are the true introduction of what it feels like to become a Trip Leader and potentially work for Camp Fitch YMCA. You can think of this as the CIT program of adventure trips. This means campers will be expected to set up a tent, cook meals as a group, and plan certain logistics of the trip themselves.

Level 5 trips are balanced with intense, high-risk activities and having more time to chill and hang out with older youth. Activities can range from rafting serious whitewater to having a beach day at a lake or ocean. These trips normally fall outside the one-week window, requiring an alternate ending or start date.

Southern Whitewater (July 20 – 26)

Do you crave a trip where all you do is paddle? If so, this trip is for you. Southern Whitewater visits four different rivers in just five days. Leaving camp on Sunday afternoon (right when you get here). The trip will travel to Ohiopyle, PA and make camp in order to raft the Youghiogheny River on Monday. Campers from Pittsburgh can choose to be picked up on the way (Sunday night). After the first rafting trip, campers will experience the lower portion of the New River on Tuesday, the Nolichucky on Thursday, and the middle portion of Gauley River on Friday. Wednesday will give campers a break where they can exercise their legs on the Virginia Creeper Trail near Damascus, VA. This trip will return to camp on a Saturday for a special pickup. Campers from the Pittsburgh area can request a drop off location for Saturday. The way this trip is structured has campers spending the night near their next activity area, getting on the river in the morning, then driving for 2-3 hours to the next location every day from around 4:00 – 7:00pm, stopping for dinner on the road. (Next time this trip will run is 2029)

Mountain Momma : Supreme (Next trip 2028)

Warning! This freakishly, amazing New River Gorge experience continues and ends the Mountain Momma progression tract. Rafting the lower portion of the New River is one of the very first activities, building to rafting the Gauley River at summer water levels at the end of the trip. Expect this to be the best whitewater experience in West Virginia. Other activities include climbing and rappelling in the gorge, enjoying the play lake with inflatables and ziplining. This trip runs once every four years. (Next Trip 2028)
