After this, the trip mainly focuses on paddling skills with an overnight canoe trip on the New River in North Carolina (same day section Sweet Carolina does). On Thursday the group finishes up their canoe trip, drives to West Virginia and participates in a high ropes course. The trip ends by rafting the New River on Friday.
Northeast Beast | Northeast Beast will return in 2025!
Join us on a wild, eight-day experience as we travel throughout the Northeastern United States. The first phase of the trip features backpacking, electronic biking, and stand-up paddle boarding in Vermont’s Green Mountains. The river otters invite you to come down south and play in the warm waters! On this version of Sweet Carolina, campers revisit a Grayson Highlands trip favorite- crawling through the cave in Tennessee. After this, the trip enters North Carolina and takes a two-day backpacking trip in the Pisgah National Forest, that can sometimes feel like a rainforest. After completing the hiking portion, the trip will canoe on the New River, straddling the North Carolina/ Virginia border. The trip ends with a bang like most trips at Fitch do- whitewater rafting in West Virginia.
Sweet Carolina: Piedmont | July 28- August 3

From there the trip will take a day hike up and over Stone Mountain, relaxing after that at a nearby stream. The ending phase will find us kayaking the New River on the North Carolina/ Virginia border and then jetting up to West Virginia to end with the classic whitewater rafting in the New River Gorge. Explore the Piedmont rocky edge of North Carolina on this trip and create memories that last a lifetime!
