Our Animals
Squid
Age: 17
Breed: Percheron Draft
Squid is a big girl with a gentle personality! She first came to Camp Fitch via a rescue organization and was severely underweight. Through the hard work of our dedicated staff, she’s back to being a healthy and happy horse!
Clover
Age: 18
Breed: Quarter Horse
Clover is a sweet old mare who lived on a cow farm before she moved to camp. She’s the ultimate “babysitter,” always taking extra care to be gentle with young or inexperienced riders.
Peanut
Age: 17
Breed: Halflinger
The polar opposite of his fellow Halflinger and herd-mate Anaca, Peanut is incredibly easy going and friendly. He loves searching the pockets of guests, looking for his next treat!
Mack
Age: 12
Breed: Clydesdale
Mack is the biggest celebrity Camp Fitch has! Throughout his two years at camp, he’s connected with hundreds of kids and gained hundreds of followers on his Instagram account, @CampFitchMack. Despite his massive size, he has the kindest and calmest disposition of any of our horses.
Dunkin
Age: 18
Breed: Quarter Horse
Affectionately nicknamed “Dunkin Donuts” because he’s round “like a donut,” Dunkin has been a part of our herd since the summer of 2017. He’s a steady trail horse with a can-do attitude!
Boots & Hope
The cats of the Camp Fitch equestrian center might be the hardest workers on Beede’s Flat, doing their best to catch every rodent they can find. Boots is a long-haired beauty donated in 2015, while Hope was adopted from a local horse barn in 2019.
Wilbur
Birthday: September 2017
Breed: Kunekune Pig
Wilbur is 400 lbs. worth of love and mischief! He’s intelligent and outgoing, known to untie shoelaces with his mouth and to stack milk crates to sneak into food bins. He came to camp in 2017 and has been the star of our farm ever since!
Fern
Birthday: September 2017
Breed: Kunekune Pig
Fern is our sweet mama pig, the “wife” of Wilbur and the love of his life! She’s been known to climb up goat ramps for fun and loves to drink hot water and eat oatmeal during the cold winter months. In September of 2019, Fern gave birth to eight piglets! She was an amazing mother the first time around and will definitely do a great job next time, too.
Fisher
Birthday: July 2019
Breed: Nigerian Dwarf Goat
Fisher is the gentlest billy goat you’ll ever meet! He likes long walks on the beach, jellybeans from Peggy Gray’s Candies, and showing off his collection of Camp Fitch t-shirts.
Louise
Birthday: March 2019
Breed: Nigerian Dwarf Goat
Louise is a sweetheart with big blue eyes. Her hobbies include bossing around her older brothers and figuring out new ways to escape the paddocks!
Simon & Garfunkel
Birthday: Summer 2019
Breed: Royal Palm Turkeys
Constantly plagued by a fear of missing out, Simon and Garfunkel have been known to follow guests from the farm all the way to the dining hall! They love to show off their beautiful feathers and (loudly) voice their opinions to anyone close enough to give them attention.
Rabbits
For most guests, the idea of a rabbit being a farm animal is something completely new! Our rabbits are the essence of sustainability. Our Jersey Wooly pair, J-bunny and Tokyo, are the perfect examples of snuggly fiber rabbits, while our Argent Bruns Kevin and Malone showcase the fast growth and efficiency of historic French meat rabbits.
Billy
Birthday: February 2019
Breed: Nigerian Dwarf Goat
Far more laidback than his twin brother Bobby, Billy is a blue-eyed boy who is happy to follow around whoever is giving him love and attention (and sunflower seeds). As a kid, Billy learned that he could ride the pigs like horses, a habit that he still has to this day!
Bobby
Birthday: February 2019
Breed: Nigerian Dwarf Goat
Bobby is by far the most outgoing of all of our goats! He even went to Kent State University in the fall of 2019 to visit students who were preparing for their final exams. With an incredibly loving personality, Bobby is always the star of the show.
Chickens
Our flock of 30+ chickens is ever-growing and changing! From Ayam Cemanis to Black Copper Marans to Icelandics, we’ve done our best to accumulate breeds that are historic, sustainable and downright intriguing. Plus, all of them have cuddly and loving personalities, too!
