The purpose of the Christian Leadership Conference is to help YMCA staff and volunteers put Christian character and principles into the Y programs that they lead. The conference includes times of encouragement, prayer, worship, and inspiration to take a renewed spiritual emphasis back your YMCA mission.
The YMCA is a great community for folks of all ages to grow spiritually. Our challenge as staff and volunteers is to create opportunities for this to happen. All of us are on unique spiritual journeys where God is positioning us at the ready for the next challenge. This September’s Christian Leadership Conference is focused on refining our spirituality to better allow us to help our members and campers understand how and for what God is positioning each of us.
Where and When: The conference begins on Friday, 30 September, 2016 at Camp Fitch YMCA in North Springfield, PA. Check-in starts at 5:30 pm at Teaberry Lodge. Camp-style accommodations are in our dormitory style lodges with shared indoor bathrooms in every lodge.
Keynote: The keynote address, given by David Kohout on Saturday morning, will focus on our theme of positioning ourselves, our members and campers for the challenge of leading others to a life aligned with Christian principles.
Workshops: Besides an opportunity to begin or continue in the YMCA rags program, the CLC is organized around the keynote and the following workshops:
Radical Hospitality: Radical means “out of the ordinary”, “revolutionary” even. What would it mean to receive someone — a stranger — with a presence that was not just polite, but to receive them with revolutionary generosity?
Take Back Your YMCA: We reach out to the community to serve them in the name of Jesus. Serve all at your YMCA — if they are hungry, feed them; if they are thirsty, give them something to drink. All we do is in the name of Jesus.
Mission Drift — History of the YMCA: Mission drift is the term given when a non-profit (or other entity) find is has moved away from the organization’s mission, either consciously or unconsciously.
Covert Operation: An intelligence operation so planned as to permit plausible denial by the sponsor, how do we set an example of Christ in our workplace?
For over 30 years, the Christian Leadership Conference held at YMCA’s throughout the country has been implemented and supported by the Walker Family Foundation of Long Beach, California. This support reduces the cost of the conference, lodging, and meals (and some great take-aways!) to a very reasonable $25 per person.
